My Funny Valentine

'My Funny Valentine' is a standard among standards. Covered by almost every artist this side of the Ganges, Rogers and Hart's modest panegyric to a strangely unsymmetrical woman has an almost universal appeal, particularly to those of us with really offensive looking girlfriends. Take care not to serenade your partner with it on Valentine's day unless she is happy about you comparing her face to a sausage supper.

'My Funny Valentine' is one of our older guitar tabs, arranged for solo guitar when we were terribly naive about harmony, chord voicings, and all that mumbo jumbo. As such, some of our arrangement plays more like a general arrangement for fingerstyle guitar (i.e. beardy folk-acoustic) than a strict jazz chord melody arrangment. To get a sense of the timing and 'extras' in this chord melody transcription, we recommend playing it in Power Tab. As a sign of our precocity, we threw in a lot of pointless fancy licks and arpeggios of the kind that guarantee to get you 'howked' out of any self-respecting guitar shop.

Having said that, our fingerstyle arrangement of this popular jazz standard does sound better than Sir Elton John!

...then again, what doesn't?
